Here are a few of the questions that we
are asked on a regular basis. If you have a question that
you feel should be in this list, please let us know.
What is a CAFO?
A CAFO is a Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation, as defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Click Here to see if your operation is considered a CAFO.
What is a NMP and when is it required?
A NMP is a Nutrient Management Plan. It is a report that summarizes how the waste
produced by a CAFO is being used. As of current regulations, CAFO facilities must have a NMP in place and operational. These plans must be updated
annually based on the most current soil and waste analyses, or when cropping plans change.
If you need to update your NMP information, or if you need
to have an NMP implemented, please
contact us as soon as
possible.
What does it take to get a permit?
First, Enviro-Ag Engineering will visit
your facility to make sure the land meets regulatory standards. EAE then prepares and submits the appropriate application to the TCEQ in Austin (for Texas
clients). Once it has been submitted, the permit will go through a review process at the TCEQ. Once the TCEQ establishes that the permit is technically complete, there is a public notice published in a newspaper with general circulation in the county the CAFO is to be located. After a 3o day comment period, if no significant interest exists, the permit will go to the TCEQ Executive Director's
office for signature. Once it is placed on agenda, the
permit should be signed within 14 days and mailed to the
facility operator at the address on file. To get a permit,
please contact us.
What is a Phase I ESA? Do I need one?
A Phase I ESA is the first step of an Environmental Site
Assessment. It identifies the presence or likely presence of any
hazardous substances or petroleum products under conditions that indicate an existing, past, or a material threat of release into structures, the ground, ground water, or surface water. Ultimately, you need a Phase I ESA if there is any threat of your operation releasing contaminants into the environment. For more information,
give us a call.
The State Regulator called and told me
that I have an inspection... what do I do?
Don't worry, just give us a call. We will help you get through the process.
In order to prevent violations, EAE asks that the operator
does it's part by keeping accurate records and reporting
ANY changes to us immediately so we can
submit the appropriate paperwork.
What is a PPP and when is it required?
A PPP is a Pollution Prevention Plan, and
it is required for all CAFOs. To see more information
concerning PPPs in Texas, please consult the General Permit
to discharge waste (TXG920000).
